medicine and theology

I have heard it said that God is the great physician, if this is true why be interested in medicine at all? I believe that there is a great deal of work that needs to be done to bring these two worlds together. In Bible College and seminary, you learn the theology and the way to read scripture. Somewhere along the way, you have a class concerning counseling and working with the distress and hurting people. When you look at the Church, it consists of a number of people that are hurting and are in need of a tender ear and gentle word.

In the health related field, you have hurting people not only with physical issues, but often times are coupled with a magnitude of emotional stress and if left untreated can lead to metal health issues. In a perfect world, you get treated by a physician and also have the support of the local community of Christ. However, increase with each day, the amount of people who become ill, while they seek medical help, there is still a void, for they are not apart of a local community.
