Day 3

One theme, that kept coming up in conversations I had with my dad during the last eight months of his life was that he wanted his life to count. "When you go through something like this, your mind continues to go over and over your life and seeking out the true meaning your life has stood for" he would say. The other thing that continued to emerged in conversation, was the idea of Forgiveness. On several occasions he proclaimed to me just how much God was showing him to be gentle, and being a forgiving person with those around him.

This Lent, in the middle of our reflection, let us look around and pursue forgiveness. Forgiveness in our world in which we live, is commonly given lip service, but rarely lived out. Our culture lives in what Philip Yancey calls, "the ungrace." Forgiveness is never the first thing we think of when someone crosses our path and hurts us. Forgiveness is not easy. However, forgiveness is eternal.

Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.
